After selling over 20 million albums as part of One Direction, Liam insisted the band and its fan base will "always" be family to him, but he's looking forward to branching out on his own.
"One Direction will always be my family; I'm now excited to show what I can do as a solo artist."
The star - who will head into the studio soon - will have all eyes on him ahead of his debut.
Nick Raphael, president of Capitol Records UK, added: "Capitol Records UK are incredibly excited to be working with Liam.
"It's not often you get the chance to sign such a talented and ambitious 22 year old who has already conquered the world."
He follows the example of Zayn Malik - who released his debut solo album Mind of Mine in March - and Harry Styles , who reportedly signed a deal with Colombia Records amid filming for Dunkirk .
