The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has disapproved the Federal Government’s appointment of the former Vice Chancellor of University of Ilorin, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, as the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
Reports gathered that the President of ASUU, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, stated the position of the Union during a press conference held at Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM).
The Union has refused the appointment due to reasons they described as anti-democratic and anti-union antecedents of Oloyede, thereby stating that he is the last person that should be honoured with a national appointment of that status in the education sector.
Oloyode, according to ASUU is an anti-worker and played a great role in the circumstances that led to the sack of UNILORIN 49 lecturers.
In the past years, the Union has refused to attend any meeting where Professor Oloyede would be present.
The Union has therefore stated that Oloyede’s history of antagonism towards the Union therefore precludes him from heading a unit like JAMB where he would need to interact with ASUU either directly or through members of the Union.
ASSU, through the Chairman, Ogunyemi has therefore demanded that before they can accept or give their approval to the new JAMB registrar’s appointment, a full-fledged investigation must be carried out into the activities of Professor Oloyede while in office as Vice-Chancellor of Ilorin.
