36 dead, 40 injured as twin explosion rocks Istanbul's airport



Two explosions and gunfire have rocked Istanbul’s Ataturk main international airport, leaving more than 40 people reportedly injured.

Reuters news agency quoting a Turkish official saying, two suicide bombers blew themselves up.

Four armed men were reportedly seen running away from the terminal building after the explosions, according to Turkey’s NTV channel.

Istanbul governor has revealed that at least 28 are reported dead from the suicide attack, Reuters reports.


However, the UK Guardian has reported that the causality figure has risen to 36.

Police have however opened fire to neutralise the suspects at an entry point as witnesses reported hearing gunshot.


Meanwhile, scheduled flights are not allowed to take off from Istanbul airport, as passengers being transferred to hotels.

Istanbul Ataturk, is Turkey’s largest airport and a major transport hub for international travelers. Recent bomb attacks in Turkey have been linked to Kurdish separatists or the so-called Islamic State group.
